Pathogenicity of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus Variants of Concern for the Syrian Golden Hamster

The aim of the work was to study pathogenicity newly emerging variants SARS-CoV-2 on model Syrian golden hamster. Materials and methods . We used strains virus related VOC circulating in territory Russian Federation. experiments were carried out outbreed hamsters obtained from nursery SSC VB “Vector”. infectious titer coronavirus tissue samples collected infected laboratory animals determined a Vero E6 cell culture. Ct RT-PCR considered an additional parameter for monitoring viral load samples. severity lung damage with COVID-19 assessed by histological preparations. Results discussion 50 % infecting doses case intranasal infection have been determined, analysis tissues performed. various hamster has evaluated, differences pathological changes lungs revealed. viruses belonging Beta genetic variant highest virulence, while Alpha lowest one when comparing studied ID50 value. Delta Omicron matched ability cause specific respiratory tract, being inferior only variant. It demonstrated that are adequate assessing concern. Variants during shown different degree model.
